Islamabad: President Dr Arif Alvi emphasised that new avenues must be explored between Pakistan and Korea to enhance bilateral trade and cooperation among private sectors and governments, according to news published in national dailies on August 24.

At the meeting in the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea with members of the Korea-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group, the President mentioned that Pakistan is willing to cooperate in various fields including information technology, science, human resource development, agriculture, economy, education, culture, and more. He went on to highlight that Pakistan has young minds, if trained and educated properly, can provide qualified and cost-competitive human resources to Korean companies.
Moreover, the president stated Korea can help bring lands of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan under cultivation and increase the yield of agricultural products for the fertile lands in Punjab and Sindh. Sharing details about other areas of cooperation, President Dr Alvi mentioned that both countries can cooperate on better disease-resistant seeds, Artificial Intelligence based irrigation systems, ICT-based modern agriculture technologies, and vertical farming. He went on to say these will help prevent water wastage, ensure food security, and help in the growth of high-value agriculture products via a controlled environment.

Reportedly, the presidents highlighted that Korea has been contributing to the economic development in the country and has invested in several sectors. He further added that both countries need to find ways to increase cooperation. During the meeting, the president focused on the role of Korean companies in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects and investment in the Special Economic Zones. He added that steps should be taken to sign a mutually agreed Free Trade Agreement, which will promote investment, bilateral trade, and business relations.
