Islamabad: Farukh Amil, who is Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva, has been elected as the President for Commission on Investment, Enterprise and Development, reported a news source. This Commission is a part of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
The election for the President was held at the 9th annual session of the Commission in Geneva. Pakistan’s Foreign Office has described the election as reflective of the international community’s recognition of the country’s important role in international trade and development.
Furthermore, Pakistan is expected to assume the chairmanship of the group of 77 and China in Geneva for 2018 because of its prominent role at the UN. This will further provide an opportunity to Pakistan share its experiences and learn ways to improve the investment climate in the country.
