Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Monday was informed that the authorities concerned would be conducting 20,000 COVID-19 tests around the country per day by the end of April, according to a news source. The country’s current screening capacity stands at 8,000 tests per day.

As per the publication, PM Khan chaired a review meeting regarding the measures put in place to check the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Various federal ministers also attended the meeting, including Asad Umar, Hammad Azhar, Syed Fakhar Imam, Makhdoom Khusru Bakhtiar, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, SAPM on Health Dr. Zafar Mirza, and several other senior officials.

The PM stated that the federal government was struggling to bring a balance between its efforts to revive economic activities in the country and to combat the spread of the coronavirus outbreak. He also emphasised on implementing an efficient strategy to ensure that all social distancing protocols were being executed and that the public was aware of the impact of the pandemic.

During the meeting, PM Khan was provided with the latest updates regarding the coronavirus breakout. He was informed about the efforts made to improve the capacity of hospitals around the country and the details regarding the distribution of medical supplies and PPEs to these health facilities.
