Islamabad: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Wednesday (November 03) assured the European Union (EU) Parliament delegates that Pakistan will implement international conventions agreed under the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP+) Plus, news sources reported.

The minister reaffirmed these sentiments in a meeting held with the EU Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with the Countries of South Asia, led by Nicola Procaccini. He said that the government is committed to implementing reforms and adjustments to the current infrastructure to honour its commitments. Furthermore, he stated that the GSP+ designation has shown to be advantageous for Pakistan’s people and trade development. He further stated that the mutual gains are the result of the Pakistan-EU Strategic Engagement Plan, which has given stability to bilateral relations.

Likewise, he said that the basis and framework for multidimensional collaboration between the two parties is expanding. It is vital to remember that Pakistan benefits from GSP+ status, which allows it to get special tariffs and tax breaks when exporting to EU nations. The EU trade commission has stated that it is assessing Pakistan’s obligations and trade potential in order to renew its GSP+ status for the next two years, till 2024.
