Rawalpindi: Pakistan and China have agreed to hold a detailed interaction of officials concerned to come up with innovative strategies for the railways sectors of the two countries, a news source reported. A two-day session would be held in this regard and the final recommendations will be released on December 25.
This was agreed during a meeting between Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed and National Railway Administration (NRA) Deputy Administrator An Lusheng. The two sides agreed that the railway sector is the backbone of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Rasheed said that ML-1 (Karachi – Peshawar mainline) should be completed swiftly, and the government would then focus on ML-2 (Kotri-Attock mainline). He asserted that the upgradation of ML-1 is the lifeline of CPEC, adding that there will be no further modifications in the framework agreement between NRA and PR.
The minister also sought reasonable construction estimates from NRA, saying China should also keep ML-2 and ML-3 as its priority because the projects hold immense importance for CPEC.
