Islamabad: Pakistan and China have agreed to the early launch of the much-awaited Main Line-1 (ML-1) project aimed to modernize the old railway infrastructure of the country, according to news published on September 29.

As per the details, the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong and Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq reached this agreement. It was mentioned that the said project had faced several delays because of design faults and some other issues.
Reportedly, the ML-1 project was the largest proposed railway infrastructure scheme under China-Pakistan-Economic-Corridor (CPEC). It was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) at the estimated cost of USD 6.8068 billion.

During the meeting, Railways Minister Rafiq asked the Chinese Ambassador to consider partnering up for a budget-friendly airline with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). Under this project, the small airports of the country will be made operational and will provide better travel facilities. The meeting also discussed the initiatives to start direct flights from Pakistan to Beijing and Guangzhou.
