Islamabad: Pakistan and China on Friday agreed to resume with the development of several stalled initiatives planned under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, a news source reported. This understanding was reached during the 7th meeting of CPEC’s Joint Working Group on Transport Infrastructure.

According to a Ministry of Communication spokesperson, the meeting discussed ongoing and future CPEC projects. Secretary Communications Jawwad Rafique Malik and Chief Planner HoD China Wang Zhiqing led their respective teams.
The Chinese delegation comprised of Chinese ministers of transport and railways as well as Exim Bank China representatives.
The Chinese officials appreciated the quick completion of the Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M-5) and Thakot-Havelian projects. The participants agreed that grand inauguration events would be organised for the launch of these initiatives because of their significant future contributions to Pakistan’s economy.

Moreover, the Chinese officials assured the Pakistani side that all steps including technical consultation and exchange of information and technology would be undertaken to make the Highway and Research Centre (HRC) more active.
