Islamabad: The federal government on Tuesday (September 28) approved a ‘national action plan’ (NAP) for Business and Human rights to ensure that ‘all businesses comply with human rights, news sources reported. Following the cabinet’s approval, Pakistan will become the third Asian and first South Asian country to have this plan.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry, in a press conference, said that after the approval of the plan, Pakistan will become one of the first countries in Asia to enact such a framework – in compliance with the United Nations Human Rights Commission. He said that implementation of this plan will help end all sorts of discrimination at the workplace, and ensure labour, health, and safety standards. The NAP was presented by the Ministry of Human Rights to improve the business and human rights situation of the country.

The minister of information and broadcasting also stated that the government has expanded the e-visa application system to cover 191 countries, up from the previous 50 countries. He stated that adding additional countries to the list will benefit Pakistan’s tourism sector as well as international investment and business in the country.
