Islamabad: Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Monday (September 6) welcomed Afghanistan’s desire to be included in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, according to media sources.

As per the details shared, the minister stated that the CPEC was an economic lifeline for the country. He went on to say that if Afghanistan has the same view about China as Pakistan, it was an encouraging sign.
Previously, in a statement, Afghanistan described China as their ‘most important partner’ and sought help from Beijing to rebuild the country and exploit its rich copper deposit to eradicate widespread hunger and promote economic growth.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid disclosed that Afghanistan supports China’s One Belt, One Road initiative – which will connect China to Europe, Africa, and Asia through a network of railways, industrial parks, ports, and roads.

Moreover, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid iterated that Pakistan supports development, prosperity, and peace in Afghanistan. While talking to the media, the minister disclosed that Afghanistan assured that its territory will not be used against the interests of Pakistan.
