Islamabad: The Advisor to the Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood, stated on Tuesday that the government will adopt a “Make in Pakistan” policy under which local production will be boosted and exports increased – a news source reported. He felt this is the perfect time to take this step, considering the economic situation in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

He said the government is looking to make full use of the opportunities as a result of the change in global trade dynamics to promote Pakistani products abroad including in the European Union, China, Central Asia, Middle East and Africa.
He said that the business practices will change following the end of pandemic, which will lead to new opportunities, products and ways of thinking. He felt this is a prime opportunity for Pakistan to shift to the “Make in Pakistan” policy.

He added the Ministry of Commerce is working on updated tariff structures to facilitate local production in the upcoming budget and emphasised that such steps are necessary to promote local industries.
