Islamabad: Pakistan’s relationship with the United States (US) is expected to be mutually beneficial for the field of agriculture in the coming years, according to sources. The Ambassador of the US in Pakistan Paul Jones is hopeful for a beneficial collaboration between the two countries specifically in the fields of agriculture, technology, public-private partnership, and agricultural value addition.

Minister for National Food Security and Research Sahibzada Muhammad Mehboob Sultan had a detailed conversation with the Ambassador regarding the potential prospects of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s upcoming visit to the US. The minister talked about the potential export market for mangoes in the United States. The fruit is already being exported to 48 countries and market access could boost its distribution. The prospect of exporting Pakistani dates to the US was also talked about.

The current government realises the importance of the agricultural sector and has identified various areas within the which could be strengthened and developed on priority, including mechanisation, decreasing the import bill, and the development of oilseeds, according to a statement by Mehboob Sultan.
The Ambassador acknowledged the importance of Pakistan in the global agriculture market, thus welcomed an exchange of technology and strategy.
