Islamabad: Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chairman of the Board of Turkmenistan Afghanistan Pakistan India (TAPI) Pipeline Company Limited Muhammetmyrat Amanov on Wednesday, a news source reported. The meeting to discuss the progress being made on the natural gas pipeline project was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad.

Amanov informed the foreign minister that negotiations to finalise an agreement between Pakistan and the TAPI Company were well underway. The financial closure of the project is expected to be settled by early 2020. The minister reassured Amanov that protection of the provision these resources was a top priority of Pakistan.

Qureshi said the energy sector is central in advancing the national economy, therefore, the current government was paying extra attention towards projects like TAPI Gas Pipeline. This project is expected to alleviate the problems of energy shortage in the country. Prompt implementation of this project as well as further exploring Turkmenistan’s cooperation in the energy sector was part of the government’s agenda, he added.
