Lahore: Pakistan and Turkey have decided to establish a Joint Task Force (JTF) for the promotion of bilateral trade and cooperation, news sources reported on June 1. The JTF will be operated and managed by the commerce and trade ministries of both countries.

According to reports, the decision to form the JTF was made during a meeting in Ankara between Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz and Turkish Minister of Trade Dr Mehmet Mus. The JTF will be responsible for the improvement in the logistics, finance, customs, and agriculture sectors.
According to the reports, the premier also asked the Turkish business community to explore investment potential in Pakistan. He also emphasised the countries’ ‘Trade in Goods Agreement’, which he said is critical to the bilateral commercial partnerships between the two countries.

On the occasion, PM Shehbaz stated that the inauguration of the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul (ITI) cargo train service will strengthen bilateral commercial relations and connectivity. He stated that this would benefit both countries’ trading relations. The Turkish minister said that their country is ready to cooperate and invest in Pakistan.
