Islamabad: Pakistan and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) have decided to increase cooperation in the telecom, information technology (IT), and digital learning sectors, news sources reported on July 21. Pakistan, in collaboration with SCO, will develop strategies to enhance digital literacy, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence (AI).

During a meeting with Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Secretary-General Ambassador Zhang Ming, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications Syed Amin Ul Haque informed the Ambassador that Pakistan is interested in collaborating with the SCO in the fields of artificial intelligence, cloud services, and digital connectivity. He further mentioned that the IT ministry’s primary goal is to increase women’s participation in the IT sector through digital solutions and policies.

Responding to the minister, Zhang praised the IT ministry’s efforts in promoting digital literacy and women’s empowerment. He also stated that the SCO countries are interested in boosting e-education, e-health, and e-commerce in Pakistan’s remote areas.
It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan has developed a Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) to oversee and launch new technology zones in the country. In this regard, Pakistan is also working with South Korea to build an Islamabad Technology Park at a cost of ACUSD 1 billion.
