Islamabad: Pakistan and Iran have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost bilateral trade at the 9th meeting of the Iran-Pakistan Joint Trade Committee in Zahedan-Iran, according to news published on June 2.

The agreement was signed by Balochistan Chief Collector of Customs, Mohammad Sadiq and General Manager of Industry of Mines and Trade Organisation of Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province Eraj Hassanpur at the end of the two-day meeting. The meeting was attended by Senior Vice President Chamber of Commerce & Industry Quetta Haji Ayyub, President Chamber of Commerce & Industry Quetta Fida Hussain Dashti, Vice President Chamber of Commerce & Industry Quetta Amjad Ali Siddiqui, and other senior officers.
As per the details, the two countries signed a 32-point MoU to facilitate people involved in border trade and other business activities. During the meeting, a committee was formed encompassing 6-member from customs, border, and trade. The committee will review the status of the implementation of the decisions taken by the Iran-Pakistan Joint Trade Committee. It was mentioned that the first meeting of the committee will be organised in July in Pakistan while the second meeting will be held in Iran.

Moreover, it was disclosed that the customs authorities of Iran and Pakistan will set up a hotline to facilitate the traders. The countries decided to ensure phase-wise implementation of border markets and investors’ access to the special economic zones. According to details, six market places will be set up on the border of Pakistan’s Balochistan province and Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan province. This agreement will help boost trade activities and create job opportunities for people.
