Islamabad: Pakistan has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China for the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) services of Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT), a news source reported.

As per the publication, China has planned to implement a management system for OLMT under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) so that it could maintain development for a longer period of time.

According to the agreement, a group of Guangzhou Metro Group, North Industries Group Corporation Limited (NORINCO) and a Pakistani company will execute the operation of OLMT for the next 8 years. It is expected that OLMT would be developed as a modernised urban transit system and boost the efficiency of commuting for millions of people in Lahore.

Chinese President Xi Jinping signed the agreement for the OLMT project in April 2015 under CPEC and the project was developed by a joint work of NORINCO and China Railway. OLMT is expected to actively start commuting activity from mid-2020.
