Karachi: President Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday stated that Pakistan and China would rebuild Afghanistan via China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a news source reported. He highlighted that as peace returned to the country, Pakistan and China’s contribution through the said initiative would be crucial to rebuilding it.

Addressing a webinar on ‘CPEC and its impact on the region’, the president revealed that so far around 90 projects under the initiative have reached completion status. He added that 28 projects were in the implementation phase and 41 were in the pipeline.
Alvi also clarified that loans from China were not overburdening Pakistan’s economy. He said that these financial engagements were actually helping improve the financial system of the country. He added that the economic corridor was based on development and focused on meeting the needs of different countries.
Meanwhile, CPEC Authority Chairman Asim Saleem Bajwa revealed that preparatory work for CPEC Phase-II was underway. He added that the second phase was an expansion of the first one – focusing on four areas.

Bajwa stated that CPEC Phase-II would focus on mass industrialisation via SEZs, agriculture sector, tourism, and IT sector.
