Gwadar: China and Pakistan are jointly developing seven projects worth USD 1.4 billion in Gwadar, news sources reported on May 23. The projects are being developed under the China-Pakistan-Economic-Corridor (CPEC) in the coastal city.
Reportedly, the data was shared during a two-day conclave on Gwadar and CPEC progress in Islamabad. It was said that the projects are being completed on a priority basis to improve the living standards of the coastal city of Gwadar. The following is a list of the projects under development in the city:

- Development of the Eastbay Expressway project, which is 98% complete
- Development of a freshwater treatment plant, water supply and distribution, which is 70% complete
- Development of New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) with the longest runway
- Construction of Pak-China Friendship Hospital in Gwadar
- Infrastructure development of Gwadar Free Zone Phase-II
- Construction of a 300 megawatt (MW) coal power plant
- Development of 1.2 million gallon desalination plant.

On the occasion, Jawad Akhtar Khokhar, Advisor of Maritime Affairs, Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, told the conference that projects worth USD 314 million have already been completed, including the Gwadar Smart Port City Master Plan, the physical infrastructure of Gwadar Port and Free Zone Phase-1, and the Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute on ‘CSR Initiatives in Gwadar (The Gateway to CPEC)’.
Similarly, the government would construct LNG (liquefied natural gas) and POL (petroleum oil and lubricants) terminals at the Gwadar Port, as well as ensure the supply of power, water, and gas, in order to permit the port’s phase-2 growth.
