Islamabad: The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is progressing quite well, with its projects picking up pace, according to a news source. Despite various misconceptions shared over the past few days, the Ministry of Planning and Development clarified that the CPEC projects were picking up pace and would be completed in three phases.

According to ministry officials, the work on the first stage has been substantially completed. This phase involved removing key economic bottlenecks, particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors. An example is the completed construction of 1,544 KM of roadways, with work on a further 1,456 KMs underway. In addition, 5,320 Megawatts (MW) of electricity have been added to the national grid, and work on seven projects generating 4,170 MW is near completion. More projects are in the works, and will add a further 2,844 MW.

Cross-border fibre-optic cables spanning 820 KM have also been laid from Khunjerab to Rawalpindi. 10 projects in the infrastructure and social sectors have also been completed or are underway.
The second phase, which is already underway, will promote industrialisation, socioeconomic, agricultural cooperation, businesses, and development.
