Rawalpindi: Owners of illegally constructed buildings on Railway Road have started to demolish the encroachments on their own, reported a news source. The practice was essentially observed soon after the operation was launched against illegal hotels on the road.

Railway Road falls in the jurisdiction of Rawalpindi Cantonment Board and it had seen mushrooming growth of hotels several decades ago. The font side of most of these hotels had encroached land previously used as footpaths and sewerage lines.

Because of being close to the railway station, the hotels served a lot of people travelling to and from different parts of the country. Over the years, the owners had encroached the state land by extended their façades further on the footpath.

To free the state land, the cantonment board marked the illegal buildings and demolished some in its one-day drive. Followed by the operation, owners of illegal developments have decided to raze the illegal structures on their own to free the state land.
