Rawalpindi: The Department of Civil Defence has made it mandatory for developers of high-rises to abide by building laws and maintain safety standards from July 1 onwards, a news source reported.

In order to ensure best practices, the department has served red notices to the violators in Rawalpindi District.
It has also instructed private and public housing schemes to ensure presence of an ambulance and installation of water hydrants near the societies’ main entrance. In case of non-compliance, the officials concerned would launch a grand operation, and violators would be penalised.

As per reports, many high-rise buildings in the districts lack firefighting equipment, proper emergency exits, and a helipad on their rooftop. As a reminder, the department has served red notices to the owners of these buildings.
Furthermore, it has instructed the developers and owners to install water hydrants near the entry points to efficiently handle any emergency situation.

The developers of housing schemes and high-rise buildings who will fail to abide by the new rules and instructions shared will face major consequences. These include facing legal charges and imposition of heavy fines.
