Islamabad: Pakistanis residing in Canada have pledged to contribute USD 2.5 million to the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams Fund, a news source reported.

As per reports, several fundraising campaigns to this effect are already taking place in different countries. These events are part of the ‘I am Pakistan Movement’ which aims to mobilise overseas Pakistanis for collecting donations for the dam fund.
In Canada, a young girl is said to have donated her earrings for the cause. Syed Ahmed, head of the international fundraiser movement, purchased the set, and donated their corresponding monetary amount to the fund.
Former chief justice Saqib Nisar, former federal minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, and Senator Faisal Javed appreciated the contributions of overseas Pakistanis.

Senator Javed has reportedly returned the earrings to the girl, and has stated that people of all ages, especially the youth, have made generous contributions. He further stressed on the need to work collectively towards achieving national goals.
He informed that Pakistan’s per capita water availability had fallen to 1,000 cubic metres from 5,600 cubic metres during the past several decades.

He said that the government has formulated a strategy for constructing the two dams. He added that the dam fund is receiving more than PKR 50 million in donations on a daily basis.
