Karachi: During Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar’s recent visit to the United States (US), several Pakistanis based in Houston donated medical supplies worth millions of rupees to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC)-run hospitals, a news source reported.

Mayor Waseem Akhtar had visited Houston to attend the ‘Sister Cities International Conference’ where he received a warm welcome from the members of the Sister Cities Association. Karachi Commissioner Iftikhar Shallwani was also present at the occasion. The two sides discussed opportunities for expanding cooperation in the fields of science and technology.
Houston-Karachi Sister City Association President Saeed Shaikh handed over the keys of the container carrying the hospital supplies to the mayor. The vehicle was later dispatched for Karachi, where the supplies would be distributed among 14 KMC-run hospitals.

The mayor conceded that these hospitals were not being run properly and were in urgent need of new medical equipment and supplies. Moreover, he showed gratitude to the Pakistani diaspora, especially Shaikh, for providing much-needed support to the KMC.
