Islamabad: The National Assembly on Wednesday approved the amendments to the Supplementary Finance (Amendment) Bill 2018, also known as the mini-budget, with a majority vote, according to a news report. In this approved budget, the PTI government has withdrawn its decision of allowing non-tax filers to purchase properties and automobile, however, overseas Pakistanis have been exempted from the requirement.
Previously, the Finance Minister had announced that the government will remove the restriction on non-filers from buying properties valuing greater than PKR 5 million. The rationale for the decision given at the time was that the requirement had triggered complaints from the overseas Pakistanis. However, now the decision has been taken back but it has been specifically clarified that overseas Pakistanis are exempt from the requirement of being a filer.
