Islamabad: Over the last four days, at least 500 people showed up at police stations in the capital territory to register themselves as tenants, according to a news source. This rush was in response to the action taken against various unregistered tenants a few days ago.
On condition of anonymity, over 500 families registered themselves as tenants at various police stations in the capital city. The majority of these tenants were living in urban areas, and included foreigners as well. The number of registered tenants is expected to increase over the next few days, as the authorities are taking the matter of unregistered tenants quite seriously.
It was revealed that police officers had visited the residences of various unregistered tenants earlier, but most people refused to cooperate or asked for some time. Once legal action was taken against approximately 50 individuals, then tenants decided to register themselves to avoid similar measures. These measures are being taken in accordance with Section 144 of CrPC, with the district magistrate obligating landlords and tenants to submit their details to the local police.
