Sahiwal: On Friday, the Assistant Commissioner Sufya Dilawar was able to clear 284 kanals of illegally occupied public land in village 52 A/G-D, a news source reported. The operation against illegal encroachers was conducted in collaboration with the local police department and revenue officials.

The market value of the recovered land is estimated to be around PKR 15 million. Land records were obtained from the Auqaf and revenue departments before the operation was conducted. The records showed that public land had been made part of private housing schemes. It had been under illegal occupation for the past 45 years.

Similar operations to retrieve government and public land from under illegal occupation have been conducted throughout the country, the most recent of which took place in Lakki Marwat to successfully retrieve 186 kanals. Local governments, in alliance with the police, are making an active effort to take action against encroachers.
