Islamabad: More than 110,000 people availed the government amnesty scheme and deposited around PKR 55 billion in taxes by the end of its deadline – a news source reported.
Yet another 21,000 are expected to submit their returns with the declaration forms, so the final figures are going to be slightly higher based on the clearance of the system.
The assets declaration scheme was launched on May 14, 2019 and was initially supposed to end on June 30. However, the government had extended the deadline to July 3.
According to sources, the scheme succeeded in getting a large number of people from the country’s smaller cities to declare their possessions – many of whom were not previously registered on the government’s tax roll.
