Lahore: The Bhatta Khasht Association has agreed to shut down kilns between November 7 and December 31 in order to reduce the hazardous impacts of smog, a news source reported on October 26. The arrangements in this regard have been finalised between the association and Environment Protection Agency (EPA), Punjab.
According to reports, the air quality index of Lahore has reached 341 microgram per cubic metre due to increasing smog levels; making the city one of the most polluted metropolises of the world. The ideal number indicating a healthy air quality stands at 80 microgram per cubic metre. As per the news source, the worsening air quality is causing several health related problems for the citizen including allergies, breathing problems and cough etc.

To prevent further rise in smog levels, the EPA has formed teams in collaboration with the Traffic Police and the Safe City Authority to deal with smoke-emitting vehicles. At the same time, farmers have been instructed to abstain from setting hay on fire.
