Karachi: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has launched an operation against illegal constructions on the Jamshed Road and Bahadurabad areas of Karachi – on Supreme Court orders, a news source reported. Several people were also arrested, upon their show of resistance.
The demolition work on a 5-storey illegal building situated on Jamshed Road (near Guru Mandir) began on Wednesday. Luxury apartments had been constructed in the building at a cost of around PKR 3 billion.
According to SBCA, the illegal building was newly constructed, and hosted no residents.
The officials overseeing the demolition said that the operation would continue until the complete destruction of the building. They also estimated it to take a few days to end; owing to the building’s large size.
The authorities plan to extend the operation to other illegal constructions in the area over the next few days.
An operation was also conducted in the city’s Dhoraji area. Assistant Commissioner Bahadurabad oversaw the effort organised by police and anti-encroachment staff.
