Islamabad: The Estate Office has launched an operation to retrieve all illegally-possessed government residences in the capital on the directions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC), according to a news report published on Thursday (June 25). The operation is also aimed at evicting people who have been allotted the said public residences illegally.

The affected people, in turn, have complained that they are being evicted without a due notice. People are also being fined for amounts higher than PKR 1 million – even though as per the apex court’s instruction, the rental ceiling has been established at five months of rent.
Previously, the Estate Office had been directed to prepare a list of the people in illegal possession of government residences and the same had been submitted to the Supreme Court – which had directed the evictions.

As per reports, the Estate Office contended that the people being evicted are the ones who illegally possess these houses, hence the nature of the operation.
