Karachi: K-Electric has extended the deadline of its crackdown against electricity bill defaulters, according to a publication. The mega operation will now commence from February 9, 2019 onwards.
To help defaulters clear off their pending payments, K-Electrics has offered an instalment plan. Furthermore, the company has also warned those involved in electricity theft to get their connections regularised. For this purpose, people consuming electricity illegally can place a call on K-Electric’s Helpline number: 118, or visit its nearest customer care centre.
The company has also cautioned that the final drive against defaulters and electricity thieves will start on the mentioned date. Consumers who fail to clear their pending dues and getting their electricity connections regularised will face legal consequences.
According to Criminal Law (Amendment) Act of 2016, power thieves and defaulters are to be punished with a seven years jail sentence, and a fine ranging between PKR 3 to 6 million. In addition, K-Electric is also authorised to publicise their names in local newspapers.
