Lahore: The Overseas Pakistanis Commission (OPC) retrieved properties worth PKR 6 billion – spanning a total area of 287 acres – in 2019, a news source quoted OPC Director General (DG) Naila Baqir as saying.

The DG revealed the information during a review meeting with OPC Punjab Commissioner Pasand Khan Buledi. She added that the commission resolved more than 4,000 complaints, in addition to vacating four houses and nine shops from illegal possession.
In response, the commissioner stated that resolving problems of overseas Pakistanis within the shortest timespan possible was the OPC’s top priority. In this regard, he added, they needed to adopt technological advancements for addressing the grievances of overseas Pakistanis in a more transparent, efficient and effective manner.
Buledi informed the meeting that fast-tracked and satisfactory disposal of complaints registered by expatriates was also among the priorities of the incumbent government. He added that they have received specific directives from Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar in this regard.

He said that OPC’s performance was satisfactory, but they should not leave any stone unturned for making further improvements. He added that district-level Overseas Pakistanis Committees must become functional, and their performances should be monitored on a regular basis. He directed the Dealing Officers to improve the authority’s complaints redressal mechanism.
