Lahore: The Punjab government plans to establish a higher body to oversee the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), in a bid to curb corruption and kickbacks on tenders – a news source reported.
The government is seeking amendments in PPRA rules. These revisions will pave the way for the establishment of a Punjab PPRA Authority. Under this authority, the tendering process will be digitised.

Firms or individuals proposing the lowest bid for tenders will be automatically awarded the contract. The authorities concerned have also prepared a list of initial reforms. These will be presented in the parliament after the law ministry’s approval.
The government is also mulling creating an accountability watchdog to maintain transparency. There have been reports of massive corruption linked to the awarding of tenders.
