Lahore: The contractor for the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) has announced that the laying down of the main track has been completed, a news source reported. It is a joint venture of China Railways Corporation (CR) and China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO). With the track completed, the main line is now available for the next phase of the project.
CR-NORINCO was responsible for the laying of tracks, supply of trains, and electrical and mechanical works. CR-NRINCO Chief Engineer Feng Shuo stated that overall length of the OLMT track is 25.58 kilometres and there 24 elevated and two underground stations along the route.
OLMT runs north-south along GT Road, Macleod Road, Lake Road, Multan Road, and Raiwind Road. The project is expected to serve up to 250,000 people each day.
Shuo said that OLMT will prove a great asset to Lahore and will greatly facilitate the daily commute of hundreds of thousands of people and help reduce traffic on the roads and the resultant environmental pollution.
