Lahore: Following the completion of the test-run for the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) project on May 6, the initiative is expected to be formally launched after the end of the going coronavirus lockdown, a news source reported.

The project was previously expected to begin commercial operations from June 11, however, it is expected to take more time owing to delays in staff’s arrival from China – both due to suspension of flights and the fact that the visitors have to follow a certain precautionary measures to curb the spread of the prevailing coronavirus pandemic.
The OLMT test run marked the satisfactory completion of major work including electrical and mechanical installations, commissioning and other tests. As per the reports, the project is ready for public use and six test runs have been carried out that confirms it.

The joint venture that includes two Chinese companies have nevertheless requested that the commercial operation date should be extended because of the ongoing lockdown and the project be launched after the lockdown ends.
