Swat: The Department of Agriculture (Extension) has launched a major initiative to promote olive cultivation in Swat, aiming to enhance farmers’ incomes and encourage sustainable agriculture in the region.
The project was formally inaugurated with a grafting demonstration in Ghakhi Bandai, Kabal Tehsil, where officials showcased techniques to convert wild olive trees into fruit-bearing varieties. The event was attended by MPA PK-9 Swat Hameed-ur-Rehman, Chairman Tehsil Council Kabal Saeed Khan, and District Director Agriculture (Extension) Lower Swat Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed, alongside local farmers and agriculture department representatives.

Addressing the gathering, MPA Hameed-ur-Rehman emphasized that grafting wild olive trees across Lower Swat would significantly benefit the farming community. He highlighted how increased olive production could generate new economic opportunities and reduce dependency on traditional crops.
Chairman Tehsil Council Kabal Saeed Khan praised the Agriculture Department’s ongoing farmer-support programs, citing successful initiatives like free distribution of fruit fly traps and the promotion of kitchen gardening. He urged farmers to take full advantage of the government’s efforts to modernize agriculture in the region.
Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed underscored the environmental benefits of expanding olive cultivation, noting its potential to combat climate change and improve soil health. He assured landowners that the department would provide continuous technical support, encouraging them to stay in close contact with agriculture officials for guidance.
