Islamabad: The government has approved the construction of a new oil terminal at Port Qasim – a news source reported.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi expressed his views on the matter. He was addressing a conference at the offices of the Petroleum Division.
The minister stated that the utmost efforts were being made to meet the growing energy requirements of the country. He said that the authorities concerned are striving to ensure that transparency and efficiency are not compromised in the execution of these projects.
Zaidi informed that existing power plants would be upgraded; adding that the previous governments only wanted to benefit themselves through such projects.

Moreover, he stressed on the need to develop an effective mechanism for effectively executing LNG-related projects. With regard to promoting investment opportunities, he said that the maritime ministry was fulfilling its role.
