Peshawar: The Pakistan Oil and Gas Development Authority (OGDCL) has discovered the country’s largest fossil fuel reservoir in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to news reports on January 3. The deposits, which are situated near Lakki Marwat on the Wali exploration block, are the largest in volume identified in the previous ten years.

Reportedly, the Wali Exploration well comprises three wells namely; Kawagar, Hungu, and Lockhart with an output capacity of 36 MMCFD of gas and 2,950 barrels of oil per day in total. The news further informed about the individual capacity of each well as follows:
- The Kawagar formation has a supply capacity of 11 MMCFD of gas and 1,000 barrels of oil per day
- The Hungu formation has a supply capacity of 11 MMCFD of gas and 950 barrels of oil per day
- The Lockhart formation (first to be developed for supply) has the capacity to supply 14 MMCFD of gas and 1,000 barrels of oil per day

In addition, OGDCL said that it will begin installing a 55-kilometre-long pipeline to connect freshly found reserves to the national supply line. It was also revealed that the area is known to contain huge Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) deposits that have yet to be explored. OGDCL is also planning to build an LPG extraction facility in the Wali block.
