Islamabad: The state-owned Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC) is making preparations for drilling shale oil and gas reserves in Hyderabad district, according to a news source. This exploration project will take place at the Kunnar Pasakhi field this year in December.
An OGDC official revealed that this will be the company’s pilot project, and will be carried forward if it is up to the mark when it comes to environmental and safety standards. Kunnar Pasakhi is already producing oil and gas through conventional means, and OGDC plans to explore its potential further, in order to increase Pakistan’s domestic production of shale oil and gas.

Pakistan was ranked as the ninth best country when it comes to shale oil and gas potential, and reserves have been discovered in Talhar, Chiltan, and Sembar. However, extracting these reserves is a process that requires major finances and resources, so the potential will have to be weighed accordingly.
