Lahore: The Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Parliamentary Coordination Nadeem Afzal Chan has said that the country’s survival is dependent on farmers, a news source reported. He stressed the need for a comprehensive police on agriculture. He also said that parliamentarians must raise their voices for the rights of peasants, and urged them to raise the issues of farmers on their party forums.
He was speaking at a consultative meeting between Pakistan Kissan Ittehad and the parliamentarians.
Speaking on the occasion, National Food Security and Research Minister Sahibzada Muhammad Mehboob Sultan said agriculture is the top priority of the government.
He further stated that the government plans to bring an agricultural revolution to the country. He promised that the next budget would lay special emphasis on the agriculture sector. He also said that the grant to the sector will be increased significantly.
Parliamentarian Fehmida Mirza remarked that concerted efforts are needed to address the issues faced by peasants and the overall agriculture sector. She sought the formation of an agriculture policy on the basis of seasonal changes.
