Islamabad: The authorities concerned have been asked by Police to obtain no-objection-certificates (NOC) prior to carrying out construction work around Safe City equipment installed in Islamabad, a news source reported. A number of cables connected to Safe City cameras were recently damaged by construction work conducted around Kashmir Highway, Faizabad, and the Islamabad Expressway.

According to police, only a few government agencies – including the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) – know of the location of the underground Safe City cables. The cables that have been damaged due to construction work were very expensive, and at least 160 Safe City cameras are currently out-of-order.
In a separate development, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) said that it had identified seven cities for launching its projects. These are, namely, Kasur, Multan, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, and Gujranwala.
The previous government had ordered for the expansion of the project which it had first introduced in Lahore, and then in six other divisions within the province. The divisions were Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala.
