Islamabad: The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) and PepsiCo have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to manage plastic waste, according to news published on July 21.

As per the details, the agreement was signed between NUST Pro-Rector Dr Rizwan Riaz and PepsiCo Senior Director Commercial and Corporate Affairs Mohammad Khosa. Under the agreement, the organisations will collaborate to address the growing challenge of increasing plastic waste in the country. It was revealed that the collaboration will include specialised training programmes, Research & Development projects, student competitions, and research events for finding practical solutions to combat the issue. Additionally, the organisations will work together on other topics including sustainable agriculture, and climate change.
Moreover, the beverage company has envisioned a place where the packaging doesn’t become a waste. In this regard, the company plays its role in moving the country towards a circular economy and decreasing plastic waste. The company uses its influence and reach to change the way plastic is used and disposed of.

It is important to note that in 2021, the company started the largest waste collection and recycling programme in the country. Under this programme, the company was able to collect 16,000 tons of plastic.
