Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) convened a session on Wednesday to address the risks associated with Nullah Lai, focusing on flood mitigation and water treatment strategies. The session was held under the directives of RDA Director General Kinza Murtaza and aligned with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and the Green Pakistan initiative.
Key discussions centered on challenges such as urban flooding, pollution, infrastructure strain, and community reluctance toward waste segregation. Participants emphasized the need to ensure a safe water flow downstream and improve sewerage treatment in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Dr. Yousuf Riaz, CEO of Green Life Foundation, highlighted the importance of afforestation along Nullah Lai’s banks to aid water recycling and the implementation of flood forecasting systems. Chief Engineer RDA stressed the role of expert recommendations in managing super floods and addressing peak flooding at an early stage.
The Green Pakistan initiative was recognized as a crucial step toward environmental sustainability, with experts noting that a cleaner Nullah Lai would enhance the local ecosystem and improve hygiene in surrounding areas.
The session included representatives from RDA, WASA, NGOs, and other key stakeholders, who discussed implementation timelines and collected feedback on proposed solutions. Among the notable attendees were Dr. Naveed Iftikhar (Urban Economist), Director Land RDA Ghazanfer Ali Awan, Director MP&TE Muhammad Tahir Meo, and other urban planning and environmental experts.
