Chakwal: The National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited (NTDC) has acquired land to construct a 500-kilo volt (KV) power station for the Chakwal industrial sector, news sources reported on July 17. The PKR 8.926 billion projects have been sponsored by the Pakistani government and a German bank.

According to reports, the Germany-based KfW Development Bank will fund the project with EUR 43.76 million, which would be used to purchase land and equipment. The project comprises the construction of two 500 KV transmission lines between Ghazi Brotha and Gatti, as well as Gakkar and Rawat. The project will strengthen the power supply situation in the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) and Electric Supply Company (FESCO) territories. It will also enhance the voltage profile in Chakwal, Choa Saidan Shah, Gujjar Khan, Dandot, Pinanwal, Talagang, Padshahan, Chakri, and other FESCO-served districts.

It is worth noting that the Chawal region is a well-known core of the country’s cement sector, with several leading cement manufacturers having manufacturing plants there. Improving power supply is anticipated to boost cement production and supply, which is critical for the construction industry.
