Lahore: The task force formed on the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) project has held its first meeting, a news source reported. The task force had been formed to review the construction of 2.5 million houses under NPHP. Work under NPHP is expected to begin in around 50% of Punjab’s districts.

The meeting was chaired by provincial housing minister Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed. It reviewed the progress made by the scheme, till date. It was decided that 1786 houses will be constructed in Lodhran. Another 2288 will be constructed in Chishtian, with 1718 built in Renala Khurd. The applications process will start in a few days’ time.
Speaking at the meeting, the housing minister said that the scheme will be formally launched in February by Prime Minister Imran Khan. In the second phase, affordable homes will be constructed in Chiniot, Burewala, Muzaffargarh, and Faisalabad.
