Lahore: For the construction of affordable houses under Naya Pakistan Housing Programme, Safia Homes has offered construction of 6,000 units, a news source reported. The organisation is among other entities, including Akhuwat Foundation, to have offered their assistance for this flagship project of the sitting government.

Reportedly, the management of Safia Homes has approached Punjab Housing Minister Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed to place a formal request. The authorities concerned are looking at different models for the construction of affordable units under the programme launched by Prime Minister Imran Khan earlier in October this year. The inclusion of Ashiana Homes in NPHP, a project managed by Punjab Land Development Authority during the previous government’s tenure, is also being considered.

In the meanwhile, the process to identify appropriate sites for setting up affordable houses is also underway. In this regard, land measuring 47,230 kanals has already been identified. Furthermore, State Bank of Pakistan is also in talks with Islamic banks to arrange Islamic loans for the project.
