Karachi: The Steering Committee on Housing and Construction recently met with officials from the banking sector to discuss various methods for boosting housing finance and providing financial backing to the federal government’s flagship Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) — according to a news source.

Reportedly, the steering committee had been formed specifically for the promotion of the construction industry. It had also been assigned the task of preparing and implementing plans to ensure the financing of housing projects and mortgages in the country.
The meeting was chaired by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Reza Baqir. Speaking on the occasion, he said that housing finance was a priority for the central bank, and that it would play an important role in promoting it in the country.

The banking officials agreed to cooperate with the SBP and the Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority to promote specific projects. The meeting also formed sub-committees in order to work on the various agendas of the steering committee.
