Gujrat: The Punjab government has appointed Additional Secretary (Prosecution) Liaquat Ali Chattha as the director general of its Housing and Town Planning Agency, PHATA – a news source reported.

The agency was recently tasked with supervising the construction of at least 2.5 million low-cost houses under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) project.
Prior to his appointment as PHATA chief, Chattha was serving as the executive district officer (finance and planning) in Faisalabad. He is also credited with successfully completing several important projects during his tenure serving as the deputy commissioner of Gujrat and Sargodha.

The newly-appointed DG PHATA said that the government had decided to complete the NPHP project on a private-partnership basis. Philanthropists would be encouraged to provide financial resources whereas the land would be allocated by the government.
