Islamabad: The spokesperson for Naya Pakistan Housing & Development Authority (NAPHDA) Asim Shaukat Ali stated on Wednesday (December 8) that the government has received nearly three million housing units from private builders under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP), news sources reported. He stated that the units are constructed utilising the public-private partnership (3P) model in order to improve the speed of work and timely delivery of the housing units.

In an interview with Radio Pakistan, Shaukat stated that the government is dedicated to providing low-income households with affordable housing developments. In this regard, the government has decided to launch the Punjab Peri-urban housing project. The project will have 3.5 marla housing units with full amenities and conveniences. In this regard, the government has offered substantial subsidies and funding in the form of land to enterprises. He also stated that the government is giving low-interest loans to deserving families to enable them to purchase their own homes through state-funded initiatives.

It is pertinent to mention that NPHP is the government’s flagship project to provide low-cost housing to middle-class families. Under the scheme, the government has incentivized commercial banks to provide loans that would assist consumers in buying or constructing houses.
