Lahore: The Environment Protection Department has instructed its field officers to serve notices to the owners of kilns not being operated on zigzag technology, reported a news source. These notices will be issued under the Environment Projection Act.

The department has decided to take the needed measures to curb the factors found to be causing smog in various parts of Punjab. Source claim that for implementing measures to control smog, the department has completed its talks with the members of bhatta associations, steel mill owners and transporters. These stakeholders have been instructed to install instruments that control the emission of smoke.

Regarding the kilns still being operating on traditional technology, the Environment Protection Department has instructed its field officers to ensure that these are converted to the zigzag technology before the onset of winter this year. The department also indicated that it will shut down all kilns being operated on old technology.
